// Lenine![]() © Nana Moraes // Lenine
Hailing from Brazil’s fertile Nordeste region, Lenine is considered one of the standard bearers of the Brazilian scene in this 21st century. The Recife singer was the first to combine rock with the typical song and dance from his region, called the “maracatù”. Having composed for the likes of Gilberto Gil, Daude, Sérgio Mendes and Dionne Warwick, he has attained superstar status in Brazil. His lyrics range from biting love songs to metaphors on politics. They mark him as a consummate agitator and modern-day troubadour. Since the mid-Nineties, Lenine has had something of a love affair with Paris, climaxing with the 2005 release InCité.
